The Forgotten Irish, 2009, TV3

About the Work

The Forgotten Irish is a two-part documentary series directed by Maurice Sweeney telling the stories of the Irish men and woman who took the boat to England, in search of work in the forties and fifties.  An intimate portrayal of the lives and loneliness of some of these people, the documentary was nominated for an IFTA.

Giles Packham’s score for this documentary drew inspiration from the brass bands of coalmining regions of the UK and the traditional Irish music listened to by emigrants.
