About the Work
Giles Packham composed the score for the feature documentary Children of the Revolution, directed by Shane O’Sullivan.
The documentary focuses on the mythology surrounding the two most famous female revolutionaries of the 1900’s – Ulrike Meinhof of the German Red Army Faction and Fusako Shigenobu of the Japanese Red Army. The film reveal a nuanced picture of the two women through detailed interviews with their daughters, rare archive footage and witness testimony.
Shot in Tokyo, Beirut, Jordan and Germany the film was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board (IFB), WDR and MEDIA. The film premiered at the prestigious International Documentary Festival Amsterdam and has been receiving critical acclaim since.
The score was heavily influence by Krautrock, a rock and electonic music genre that originated in Germany in the 1960s.
