About the Work
Giles Packham wrote the score for this Irish Film Board short film Homemade directed by Luke McManus.
‘Homemade’ tells the story of pensioner Tommy Fogarty whose attempts at impressing his new lady friend go awry when a group of teenage girls set out to destroy his plans. The short is centred around a church cake sale, with ‘Father Ted’ actor Jim Norton (Bishop Brennan) playing lead character Tommy, and actress Deirdre Connolly portraying his potential love interest. The edgy film set in Dublin tells the tale of revenge by baking.
The film premiered in Galway July 2012 as part of the Galway Film Fleadh. It has also screened October/November 2013 on RTE and as the pre show movie at the IFI.
Score for the film blended a haunting piano piece with some traditional horror orchestration and elements of electronic music to reflect the different moods in the film.
